Capture the greatest beauty of Walloon Lake, on this paddle-pedal loop. Since there is no current, launch can commence at Jones Landing or in the Village of Walloon Lake. After the 4.3 mile paddle, the pedal give a whole new experience. Locally termed The Seven Hills, beauty and grit go hand in hand on the North Shore Drive.
Take a dandy of a loop around beautiful Leland. Starting at Nedows Bay beach on Lake Leelanau, head South and around Brady’s Point. Turn into the river and float the lazy current into town. The boatlauch is on the left for east exit. Total float is 2.2 miles, with about 2/3 in Lake Leelanau. The nice feature is the return trip of only 0.6 miles through the neighborhoods of Leland.
A leisure day of light bicycling around town and along the shoreline, mixed in with a walk out on each of the three piers. Land a bite to eat at either end of town, or many options in between.
Suttons Bay on the South side of town offers options without trecking a long distance from the comforts of the Village. A few parks, both on and off the water, with provisions available on your way out. Go far on the Leelanau Trail, or putter about the skirts of town.
The Leelanau Trail extends a short ways to the North of Suttons Bay, with a return trip along the same. The ride is easy, and there tends to be less people on this Northern section.
Enjoy the scenery and winery. The Leelanau Trail is relatively flat, but the roadways to the wineries are not. What goes down, must come up – when it comes to bicycling.
The Upper Chain of Lakes in Antrim County is a long and peaceful opportunity to paddle in a lake setting without fear of whitecaps. The lakes in this section include Beals, Scotts, Sixmile, St. Clair Lake, Ellsworth, Wilson, Ben-way, Hanley, and Intermediate. The route is relatively narrow, yet extends for miles through multiple communities. Plan a section at a time, or power through the route as a marathon.
