Take an easy ride about Elk Rapids for all the flavors of local wine, beer & spirits. Light pedaling, maybe walk a bit on the boardwalks, and hoof into the places who serve it up!
A remote hike, and although the trek is along the shoreline and flat, the walking surface is all rock. Over 4 miles of undeveloped State Park shoreline, this stretch will set you in remote land. For rock hounds, the general rule of thumb… The farther you walk, the better your chance of finding big ones. Upon arrival to Norwood Township Park, consider your parking options as follows. If in a car, park at the Norwood Park. If in a SUV, you can drive a ways along the seasonal road and find one of the few roadside parking spots. If in a monster truck, you may make it to Whiskey Creek.
Depart from Charlevoix, take the Lake To Lake Trail, and arrive at Fishermans Island for a lakeshore & woodsy ride. Riding surfaces range from solid roadway to a few potential squishy spots on the paths in the Fish Isle backwoods. Not a skinny tire bike ride, however the elevation change is quite minor, making for a relatively easy ride on a hybrid or mountain bike.
Off the beaten path, you can grab a tasty picnic at Andy’s, then enjoy the flavors amongst the dunes of Fisherman’s Island, overlooking the island itself. Use your newly fed energy to hike the trails of Elizabeth B. Hoffmann Preserve to find the clean waters of Inwood Creek. Walk next door to the preserve, for a tasty beer at Bier’s Inwood Brewery overlooking Lake Michigan. Then find a perfect piece of local pottery next door again at Bier Art Gallery
